About the Artist

Yükselle Hassan
Natural beauties of life
Yükselle Hassan studied at the Academy Of Fine Arts (Mimar Sinan University) in Istanbul between 1962 and 1967.
Worked for Scholastic Canada Ltd. in Toronto between 1979-2009, as Graphic Artist and later as Art Director.
Exhibited her work at various Toronto galleries and annually at the Gallery 306, 80 Spadina Avenue.
She lives in Southampton, Ontario, with her beloved husband Turgut, since 2009.
Painting landscapes inspired by the beauty of the Great Lakes district.
Statement of a LANDSCAPE artist: At the beginning, the ancient Türkish art of marbling created
on the surface of a basin of water gave me the freedom of movement. Later, those flowing colours
and shapes were translated into clouds and waves on my canvases.
My work is an exploration of "realism in fantasy". I depict familiar things and places in an imaginative way.
Nature's magic works on earth, organic shapes and patterns created by its force inspire me;
I paint the moods and colours of Lake Huron, the rocky beauty of Georgian Bay and the Muskoka region, shorelines,
flora and fauna of Southampton.
I have a strong passion for recreating nature on canvas as I see it, giving pleasure to an art lover's imagination.
Motto: quote by Friedrich Nietzsche, “Live Life Like A Work of ART.”

The art of Yükselle Hassan: An Adoration for Nature is expressed on her canvases.
Yükselle's painting style is “Realism In Fantasy,” which she coined herself.
In this series of works, you can sense hints of romance through an evocative composition of nature, executed with a modernist expression and abstraction.

"Listening to the music while painting helps her to create the rhythm in her colours and flowing patterns".

I never fail to be moved by Yukselle’s art. To stand in a gallery at an exhibition of her work is to feel as though one were attending a lush banquet for the eye. Her landscapes are arresting in their intensity.
